Villa Taranto

The garden is situated on the shore of Lago Maggiore, between Intra and Pallanza. Back in 1931 the Scottish Captain decided to buy an estate from the Marquise of Sant’Elia to transform it into a specimen of English Garden, situated in a strip of Italy which could remind him of his native Scotland. This work had to meet two basic requirements: the aesthetical and the botanical one. He bought other lands and in the property he created woods, small valleys of shrubs, flower beds, small lakes and green houses. The botanical patrimony of the gardens of Villa Taranto contains almost 8.500 genera and varieties of particular botanical importance.

Basilica San Vittore

The current building of the church is relatively recent. Its construction started at the beginning of the 17th century, when a new collegiate church was built, and it finished with the laying of a new dome, which is now covered with copper plumbing. Inside the church you can find a majestic pipe organ of the end of the 18th century. The church is near our apartment complex.

 Cascata del Toce

The waterfall, with its drop of 143 m, is the highest waterfall of Europe. The waterfall was visited and loved by many famous visitors, such as Wagner, D’Annunzio, Queen Margherita, King Vittorio Emanuele III and Carducci. They all described the waterfall very enthusiastically and defined it as one of the most beautiful waterfalls in the Alps. The path that runs along it is a part of the road which had linked Milan and Bern for ages.  On the top of the waterfall there is a balcony, from which you can admire the drop. The waterfall is completely visible in summer months as its waters are used for hydroelectric purposes.
